This little tiny guy was recently added to the Rainforest. We released three before Dr. Jaret Daniels decided to come by and take the rest of them so he could breed them. Why? Because these Atala(Eurmaeus atala) are fairly rare and can only be found in Cuba, the Bahamas and deep southeast Florida. It is that last fact and because it has orange and ble that this photo is named such.

Family: Lycaenidae
Subfamily: Theclinae
Tribe: Eumaeini

i was fortunate enough to find a colony of these in flight once, in the everglades national park...after painstakingly hunting down a patch of their host plant (Coontie) amongst the low-growing palmettos. it was truly heavenly^^

I have no doubt of that, that are always a sight to see and I love to raise them too, such bright colors on the larvae as well!
