Living Leaf, Dead Leaf by Fezzgator Living Leaf, Dead Leaf by Fezzgator
Two of our wonderful leaf mimics side-by-side. THe one on the left is a fairly common species in the exhibit, the White-angled Sulfur where the one on the left, the Red-striped Leafwing, is new to us but a welcome addition. As you can see the red stripes are easy to see if the light is just right but unlike its buddy here the Leafwing feeds on decaying matter and tree sap as do the vast majority of members of the Charaxinae subfamily.

White-angled Sulfur
Scientific Name: Anteos chorinde
Family: Pieridae
Subfamily: Coliadinae
Tribe: None

Red-striped Leafwing
Scientific Name: Siderone galanthis nemesis
Family: Nymphalidae
Subfamily: Charaxinae
Tribe: Anaeini

It wasn't perfect, it was my hope that I would capture the White-angled Sulfur with similar light so you could see the yellow spot on the inside of the wings but I had missed my chance
